The Authors
Matthew Downey is a Professor of History at the University of Northern Colorado. He also directs UNC’s Hewit Institute for History and Social Science Education, where he helped create the Doing History/Keeping the Past Project. Professor Downey has written several textbooks, as well as numerous articles and books about history education.
Ty Bliss has taught for over twenty years in Colorado public schools, many as a fourth grade teacher for the St. Vrain Valley School District. She was a teacher consultant for the Doing History/Keeping the Past Project, and helped present workshops throughout the state to promote Colorado history education through the use of the Project materials. Ms. Bliss also has been a teacher consultant for the Colorado Geographic Alliance and a teacher facilitator for Project Wild, Project Wet, and Project Learning Tree.
